What We Look For
RCJCL Ventures provides resources, funding, and consulting services for creators and creative companies. We try to span the gamut: if someone needs help assessing market/niche fit, or reviewing a business plan, we can help. We can also be there as a neutral sounding board, if someone is looking for professional guidance that isn’t colored by existing biases.
For larger projects, we also go the next mile: we can provide support via low-rate loans or investment. In those cases, we work best when folks approach us with the following in hand:
- An image of the future: Tell us how our support would unlock new developments for you or your company.
- A general business overview
- An intellectual property plan
- A portfolio of / links to previous work
Images of the Future?
We want to enable folks who have been running up against the limits of their existing capabilities: “If only we had X more dollars to spare, we could do Y and Z and finish this project.” / “We learned our lesson on the last project, and if we could start X with Y funding, we could do Z.”
This is important to us as we find it far too easy to receive new funds and extend timelines, but only to be in a worse situation when it’s time for loan payments to start.
Intellectual Property Plan?
We want to support folks in all creative endeavors — but it’s a hard, and legally/morally difficult, road to repay a loan based on fan works alone.
If additional support allows you to create your own original characters, great! That’s your IP plan. If additional funding allows you to develop more work for a series / work that you’ve received licenses for, excellent, that’s a fabulous IP plan. However, we are unlikely to help with an effort where the majority of funding would go into simply obtaining / maintaining a license, as we feel these situations tend to come with too much risk.
